Install Your Yoga Wall

Choose the path that works best for you — tackle it yourself with our step-by-step guide, or bring in our professional affiliate installer for a custom setup.

How to Install the Great Yoga Wall®

The YOGA WALL® is designed around our patented ball-and-socket hardware system. You mount the spring-loaded socket wall plates into ¾″ hardwood veneer plywood. The wall belts and bars snap into the wall plates with a brass ball — giving you tremendous flexibility of use.

The Basic Setup uses 3 rows of wall plates. The Deluxe Setup uses 5 rows. Plates are mounted to the plywood in columns 16″ apart. The plywood is then attached to the wall by bolting 2″×4″s horizontally into existing wall studs, then screwing the plywood into the 2×4s.

We have a router template available to prepare the plywood for the wall plates — details below.

Wall Plate Spacing Planner

Plate columns are spaced 16″ apart horizontally (required for Wall Bar use). Use this table for the exact row heights from the floor when planning your layout.

Row Basic Setup (3-row) Deluxe Setup (5-row) Typical Use
Row 1 (lowest)2¼″ from floor2¼″ from floorLeg & hip work, grounding poses
Row 23′-3″ from floor1′-8″ from floorStanding poses, mid-body support
Row 36′-6″ from floor3′-3″ from floorUpper body, shoulder work
Row 4—4′-10″ from floorChest openers, backbends
Row 5 (highest)—6′-6″ from floorInversions, full traction

Tip: Mark each row position on the plywood before routing to verify spacing with a tape measure.

Step-by-Step Installation

1

Purchase Your Plywood

Buy ¾″ hardwood veneer plywood at your local lumber yard. The number of sheets you need depends on your setup size — a Basic (3-row) setup requires less than a Deluxe (5-row) setup. Cut the plywood to your wall dimensions before routing.

2

Prepare the Plywood Using the Router Template

Use the router template with your router and ¾″ double-flute straight cutting bit to cut out holes for the wall plates. The template ensures all holes are spaced exactly 16″ apart — the precise spacing required for the Wall Bar to fit correctly.

Once routing is done, use the 1&⅜″ butterfly bit or hole cutter for any secondary holes. See the Router Template section below if you need to rent the template.

3

Prepare the Wall — Install the 2×4 Horizontal Backing

Locate your existing wall studs. Bolt 2″×4″ horizontal boards into those studs at the heights corresponding to your row layout. These 2×4s provide the secure backing that the plywood will attach to. Use a level throughout this step to ensure everything is plumb.

4

Mount the Plywood to the 2×4s

Screw the prepped plywood panels onto the 2×4 backing boards. Pre-drill holes to prevent splitting. Ensure the plywood is flush and level before fully tightening all fasteners.

5

Install the Wall Plates

Insert the spring-loaded socket wall plates into the routed holes in the plywood. Secure each plate using the allen wrench and socket wrench as specified in the hardware instructions. Use the C-clamps to hold plates in position as needed during fastening.

6

Snap In Your Belts & Accessories

Once all wall plates are installed and secure, snap your wall belts, wall bars, and other accessories into the ball-and-socket fittings. Test each connection to confirm a firm snap-in. Your Yoga Wall is ready to use!
